Beschreibung der Unterkunft

Step back in time in this 1910 Canowindra farmhouse built of solid block typical of the era. Canowindra farmers Richard and Florence Statham have restored this as a comfortable guest house and farm-stay. It has one twin room and one queen room with a spare single bed - so up to 5 are easily accommodated. For extra guests it also has a foldout couch in the sun room. There is a verandah with tables and barbeque, a kitchen-dining room, sunroom, cosy lounge and TV room and simple shared bathroom. Details Richard and Florence Statham moved to Canowindra in 1995, and have grown organic olives, winegrapes and figs with their sons since 1997. The farm, originally part of the large Bangaroo Station, had the original farm managers homestead, which they extended in 1998. Now they have restored the original old part of the house to its former glory, with its lovely heavy concrete block walls, high ceilings and classic old fixtures. The furnishings are an expression both of Richard's Australian farming background and Florence's French background, with some lovely old furniture and decor from around the world. The Farmstay has two bedrooms - a twin room ideal for kids, and a queen room for mum and dad, with a spare single in it. For extras there is also a folding bed in the sun room, which is actually a sleepout, and which also has the kitchen and dining room, is full of light and has lovely views over the farm. From the hallway or the kitchen you go to the verandah. Here there is lots of room for entertaining, with two tables with chairs for 10 or so people, and a new barbeque. The verandah opens onto a dry-climate garden with many drought tolerant species, plenty of room for outdoor parking and easy 300m access to the main road to Canowindra (Rivers Road). Should you have any questions or like to taste some wines, Richard and Florence are just around the corner in the new section of the house. Canowindra, just 8km away, is a delightful historic village. Its friendly locals will welcome you as you explore its famous crooked main street, with its art galleries, bric-a-brac, cafes, craft shops and all the services you need in a rural area. Our favourite place to dine out is the popular Chinese restaurant at the Golf Club, or else there is a great woodfired pizza restaurant and a few pubs and clubs. Further afield, a 30 minute drive takes you to the larger town of Cowra, where the Tourist Information Centre is very helpful.
