Among the terre di Siena rolling hills that overlook the Valdichiana, Villa 'Fonte del Castagno' is the ideal sojourn/holiday spot in the heart of the most fascinating area of Tuscany as far as art, culture and landscape are concerned. Our three picturesque apartments are the result of a sensitive restoration of the old stables of an historic, noble palace, placed beside the fonte del castagno - the old village fountain built in 1265. The original features of the apartments have remained unaltered so that the massive chestnut beams and ceilings with ancient brick vaults can be admired in their original splendor. The comfortable furnishings are mainly antiques, in keeping with the architectural features of the apartments. In front of the apartments there are large, panoramic gardens arranged on various levels and shaded by trees. Each apartment has its own outdoor private area with furniture and a barbecue. There is a lovely swimming-pool in the garden In addition to providing all of the amenities most often found typically only in countryside properties, Villa 'Fonte del Castagno's unique location in the medieval center of Sinalunga is only steps away from the main square. There you will find cafes', restaurants, shops, the vibrant market on Tuesday mornings and village life. The Holiday Home Fonte del Castagno's central location in the heart of the Terre di Siena and Val di Chiana allows you to discover many wonderful large towns and small villages in any direction you choose. Sinalunga is the area of origin of the Chianina, the largest and one of the oldest cattle breeds in the world. You can eat the famous bistecca alla fiorentina, produced from its meat, in many restaurants in this area. The hilltop towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino, renowned for their wines such as Nobile and Brunello, are nearby. Visit Pienza, taste the pecorino cheese and tour the surrounding Val d'Orcia - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also within the immediate vicinity you will find the timeless landscape of the Crete Senesi, the white truffles of San Giovanni d'Asso and many other little villages where the best olive oil of Tuscany is produced. Another area close by is Chianti, which is famous for the wine. Siena, home of the Palio, the exciting horse race in the Campo, is famous all over the world. This beautiful city as well as Cortona, Lake Trasimeno and Arezzo are all less than a 30 minutes' drive, and you can reach Florence, Perugia, San Gimignano and Assisi in less than one hour. Rome is only one hour and a half away. It is also possible to reach all of these places by train and by bus from the station in Sinalunga. The Holiday Home 'Fonte del Castagno' is very close to the famous thermal baths of Tuscany: Rapolano Terme, Montepulciano, Chianciano Terme, Bagno Vignoni, Bagni di San Filippo and San Casciano dei Bagni. We have an agreement with some of these spas, where you can take advantage of special discounts on the entrance to the hot pools and on beauty treatments. For mountain-lovers Monte Amiata is one hour's drive away. There you can ski in winter or take lovely walks in the other seasons of the year, and also eat some very tasty chestnuts! The apartments : Apartment 'La Limonaia' people : 2+1 (36 mq) The apartment is on two levels. On the ground floor: sitting-dining room with kitchenette, french sofa-bed and bathroom with shower. On the mezzanine level there is a double bed, reached by a staircase. The apartment also has free wi-fi, washing machine, dishwasher, satellite tv, heating and on request air conditioning. Outside there is a private pergola with furniture and barbecue. Apartment 'Gli Archi' people : 3+2 (75 mq) First floor apartment composed of a large open-concept kitchen, dining -living room with fireplace. In this space there is a double sofa-bed, one single bed , and bathroom with shower. There is a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with shower. The apartment also has free wi-fi, washing machine, dishwasher, satellite tv and heating. Outside there is a private terrace with furniture and barbecue. Apartment 'Le Volte' people : 5+2 (78 mq) Ground floor apartment composed of a sitting-dining room with kitchen and double sofa-bed. There are two double bedrooms, one with an additional single bed, and both with en-suite bathrooms with showers. The apartment also has free wi-fi, washing machine, dishwasher, satellite tv and heating .Outside there is a private terrace with furniture and barbecue.
